FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - BOARDING

  1. How do I board my horse at the OSU Horse Center?
    To check boarding availability, contact the Horse Center at 614.459.4208. Space is limited so call early.

  2. What does it cost to board my horse at OSU?
    The boarding fee for a horse at the OSU Horse Center is $400 per month for the term of the agreement, unless terminated earlier via certified to the Horse Center 30 days prior to the termination date. Payments for partial months will be charged a daily rate which assumes a month has 30 days.

  3. When are these fees paid?
    The boarding fee is due the 1st of each month and a $25 late fee will be assessed if the payment is not received by the 3rd day of the month. Checks should be made payable to The Ohio State University and delivered to:

  4. What type of care will be provided to my horse while at the Horse Center?
    The University will provide quality care for your horse which includes a 10'x12' stall, hay and grain twice a day, free choice minerals and water, daily stall cleaning, and bedding as needed. In addition the University will provide the Owner access to turnout paddocks, access and use of the indoor and outdoor arenas, and tack room space.

  5. What are my responsibilities as the horse owner while my horse is being boarded at OSU?
    The Owner is responsible for all farrier and/or veterinary care. The Owner warrants that he/she owns the horse(s) or is an agent for the Owner of the horse and at the time of delivery to the University the horse(s) is free from infectious, contagious transmissible diseases. The Owner agrees to provide the University of proof of a current (within on year) Negative Coggins and a certificate of inoculation for influenza, rhinopneumonitis and strangles within the last 30 days and a deworming and vaccination record.

  6. What if there is an emergency involving my horse while at the Horse Center?
    If the University determines that the horse(s) needs emergency care, the University will attempt to contact the Owner. In the event the University is unable to contact the Owner, the University will contact your primary veterinarian. In the unfortunate event the University is unsuccessful in reaching either the Owner or the primary veterinarian; the University has the authority to secure emergency care. The Owner will be responsible for paying all costs related to the medical injury and/or care. The Owner also shall bear all risk of loss from injury, sickness or death of his/her horse unless such loss is caused by negligence or intentional acts or omissions of the University, its Animal Science Department, and its employees and agents, while they are acting within the scope of their employment or agency.

  7. What are my rights as an Owner during the time my horse is boarded at OSU?
    The Owner has the right to visit and ride the horse at The Ohio State University Horse Center, 3658 Kays Avenue, Dublin, Ohio. The Use of the horse should be scheduled around the University's teaching, extension education and research activities. The Owner must abide by the rules and regulations of the University and its University Horse Center at all times. The Owner may be asked to remove his/her horse(s) immediately if the Owner does not follow the rules or places another horse or individual in jeopardy of serious physical harm.

  8. How do I terminate my boarding contract if the need should arise?
    The Owner must give notice of termination to the University at least 30 days prior to the new termination date. The University shall be entitled to any boarding fees incurred prior to the termination. The University may also terminate the boarding agreement by giving the Owner 30 days written notice.

  9. Where is the Horse Center located?
    The Ohio State University Horse Center is located at 3658 Kays Avenue, Dublin, Ohio, only minutes away from main campus in the northwest area of Columbus. Take I-270 to Sawmill Road exit and head south. Our facility is located only 2 minutes south of the freeway on the east side of Sawmill Road. Look for the Don Scott Livestock Center sign.

    If you are visiting from the OSU Campus, take 315 north to Bethel Road exit. Turn left onto Bethel Road and follow it to Sawmill Road. Turn right on Sawmill and go through two traffic lights. The Horse Center will be on your right.
